Alfio Giuffrida made this artwork, ‘AG Sinnwerke,’ at an unknown date, using metal. The construction reads a bit like a drawing in space, a three-dimensional sketch made of thin metal bars that weave and intersect, seemingly defying gravity. There's something incredibly playful about how Giuffrida coaxes this rigid material into such an open, airy form. Look at how the light catches the edges of the metal, creating a delicate dance of shadows. It’s almost as if the sculpture is breathing, its form constantly shifting with the changing light. It reminds me a little of David Smith’s Cubi series, but where Smith’s sculptures are monumental and imposing, Giuffrida's work has a kind of fragile grace. Both artists, though, invite us to rethink sculpture, to see it not as a solid mass, but as a dynamic interplay of space, line, and light. There's no right way to see it, and I think that's the beauty of it.
