This photo of Gezicht op de Kneuterdijk in Den Haag, made by an anonymous artist, is like stepping back in time, all sepia-toned and dreamlike. I can almost feel the sun dappling through those trees, casting shadows on the buildings below. What was it like to stand there, setting up the shot? Did they feel like they were capturing a fleeting moment, or something timeless? It reminds me of some of the early street photography, where the world is caught unawares. The light seems soft, almost like it's been filtered through memory. There’s a stillness to it, but also a sense of life bustling just out of frame. It makes me think about how much has changed, but also how much stays the same. Other artists have gone before us and their work remains like a conversation across time, don’t you think? Each artist building on what came before, responding to it, arguing with it, loving it. And that’s how we keep the conversation going.
