Eyvind Earle imagined this Moon Bath in shades of blue. It feels like an illustration, precise and planned, with sharp lines. I imagine Earle working on this, slowly building up the scene. The blue gradients that create a sense of light and depth. What was he thinking about when he was making this? The long flowing hair, drawn with such care, gives me the sense that the artist was looking at Japanese prints, particularly the flowing lines of Hokusai’s “Great Wave”. There’s a similar stylization in the woman’s body. Her back arches and her head tips back, evoking this feeling of peace and vulnerability. We all pick up ideas from each other, and Earle’s work is no exception. It's a reminder that art is a conversation across time. I find it interesting that it's not quite clear if the work is finished, but instead encourages different perspectives and understanding.
